Not sure if you recall the formula correctly?

Our brains like to play tricks on us.

We could be holding keys in our hands and thinking that we lost it. We could switch off the fans, confidently walk away, and forget if we did.

And the more you try to recall, the more uncertain you are.

When it comes to Math, you could remember a formula, write it down, and second or third-guess if it’s right.

It’s annoying. As annoying as the pesky housefly.

But not to worry. You can use a simple trick to combat this mind trickery and confirm that you’re right.

Simply test the formula with random numbers on your calculator.

Take this formula as an example.

(a + b)^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2

We let each letter be a number. a = 5, b = 3.

Sub in the values for a and b on the left side of the equation.

(5 + 3)^2 = 64

Note the answer. Do the same on the right.

5^2 + 2(5)(3) + 3^2 = 64

Then, check if you get the same answer on both sides.

If it is, you were right all along.
